City of Ylöjärvi
Ylöjärvi is a growing, developing and youthful city, located in the urban Tampere region in Pirkanmaa. The distance to Tampere is 14 km, while Helsinki is 189 km away, Turku 164 km and Jyväskylä 162 km. Ylöjärvi’s neighbouring municipalities are Tampere, Nokia, Hämeenkyrö, Ikaalinen, Parkano, Virrat, Kihniö and Ruovesi.
The population of Ylöjärvi is close to 34,000. There are more than 10,000 jobs in the city.
Ylöjärvi’s City Council consists of 51 members, while the City Board has 11 members. Pauli Piiparinen serves as the city’s mayor.

Ylöjärvi was originally founded in 1869 and became a city on 1 January 2004. The Municipality of Viljakkala merged with Ylöjärvi in 2007, and Kuru joined them in 2009.
