Kansainvälinen valokuva- ja videotaiteen kiertonäyttely Backlight 2021 on esillä 11.-31.10.2021 Ylöjärven kirjasto Leijan näyttelytilassa.

Suomessa ja ulkomailla kiertävä näyttely tarjoaa katsojalle mahdollisuuden kokea, kuinka taiteilijat tällä hetkellä visualisoivat, ymmärtävät ja tulkitsevat, taiteen ja tieteen moniulotteista suhdetta avaruuteen, luontoon ja eri kulttuureihin.

Näyttelyn teema korostaa sitä, ettei ole vain yhtä totuutta, vaan pikemminkin useita totuuksia, rinnakkaistodellisuuksia. Kymmenen taiteilijan näyttely rakentuu erikokoisista valokuvavedoksista, suurista seinätapettikuvista, videoista, äänimaisemista ja interaktiivisesta tekoälyyn perustuvasta selfie-teoksesta.

Kiertonäyttely on äärimmäisen ajankohtainen. Eri puolilta maailmaa tulevat taiteilijat käyttävät teoksissaan eksaktia tiedettä ja uutta teknologiaa, mutta tosiasioihin ja fiktioihin perustuvista visuaalisista tarinoista löytyy myös huumoria. Taideteokset purkavat myyttejä haudanvakavasta suhtautumisesta tieteistarinoihin ja herättävät näkemään kiertotalouden ja ympäristöllisen kestävyyden uudella tavalla.

Valokuvakeskus Nykyajan, Tampereen taidemuseon ja Majaoja-säätiön yhteistyössä tuottama kiertonäyttely avaa katsojille valikoiman tamperelaisen Backlight2020-valokuvafestivaalin taiteilijoiden tulkintoihin maailmasta, jossa vain mielikuvitus on rajana. Osa teoksista on tehty maapallon avaruuskeskuksissa, erämaissa, merellä ja veden alla. Kiertonäyttelyn ovat kuratoineet Backlightin festivaalijohtaja Hannu Vanhanen ja museoamanuenssi Johanna Kangas Tampereen taidemuseosta.

Backlight2021 kiertonäyttelyn taiteilijat ovat John Angerson (Englanti), Caroline Corbasson (Ranska), Michel Le Belhomme (Ranska), Sami Lukkarinen and Roope Mokka (Suomi), Michael Najjar (Saksa), Bianca Salvo (Italia), Aki-Pekka & Astrid Sinikoski (Suomi), Daniel Stier (Saksa), Sameer Tawde (Intia), NASA/ESA/Edwin E. Aldrin (USA, Eurooppa).

Backlight 2021 touring exhibition

Ylöjärvi Central Library hosts an international Backlight2021 touring exhibition, which will be on display from 11th September until the end of the month. The exhibition, which is touring in Finland and abroad, offers the visitors the opportunity to experience how artists currently visualize, understand and interpret the multidimensional relationship of art and science to space, nature and different cultures.

The theme of the exhibition emphasizes that there is not just one truth, but rather several truths, related realities. The exhibition of ten artists includes photographic prints of various sizes, large wallpaper pictures, videos, soundscapes and an interactive selfie-work based on artificial intelligence (AI).

The touring exhibition is extremely topical. Artists from different parts of the world use exact science and new technology in their works, but there is also humour in visual stories based on facts and fiction. The works of art dispel myths about the very serious attitude towards science stories and evoke a new way of seeing the circular economy and environmental sustainability.

The touring exhibition, co-produced by the Photographic Centre Nykyaika, the Tampere Art Museum and the Majaoja Foundation and presenting a selection of works of the Tampere Backlight2020 Photo Festival, opens for viewers the artists’ interpretations of the world where only the imagination is the limit. Some of the works have been made in space centres of the Earth, in the wilderness, at sea and underwater. The touring exhibition is curated by Backlight's festival director Hannu Vanhanen and museum curator Johanna Kangas from the Tampere Art Museum.
